Greetings Fellow Suiseki Enthusiasts!
Today I was remembering my last visit to the Stone Symposium which I found very enjoyable. It feels as if it were yesterday. I am sorry I could not attend the Stone Symposium two years ago because of my business and appreciate your understanding. My recent thoughts on suiseki made me realize that suiseki, like other Japanese art forms have two distinct dimensions “movement and stillness”, and “shadow and light”. Each stone gives us a different impression of the world around us. At the Stone Symposium I would like to explain in depth my thoughts on suiseki. Several years ago I wrote an essay entitled “The Heart of Bonsai” and was fortunate to have it translated by Columbia University Emeritus Edward G. Seidenstricker. He contributed greatly to the introduction of Japanese literature to the world. Sadly he passed away last year. Before my essay is published, I would like to give an autographed copy of a portion of it to each attendee of the Stone Symposium. I hope learning about bonsai will give you a different approach to suiseki and help you to experience it’s profoundness. I am looking forward to seeing you again soon.
